Jan 11, 2024 - AJIJIC CARES Re-launch Presentation at Lucky Bar

Ajijic Cares partnered with Lucky Bar in Ajijic to welcome and present our new Psychologist / Director, Mitsunari Zapata. 

June 21-23 2024 - Lakeside Little Theater - Facing East

The Lakeside Little Theater graciously gave their talents to stage an emotional performance of Facing East – a story of acceptance, forgiveness, and grief surrounding the AIDS crisis.  The performance was attended by members of the community at large, earning total donations & proceeds of more than $100,000, to Ajijic Cares – enabling us to expand our reach and continue to make a positive impact for sexual health education and HIV/AIDS awareness throughout the Lakeside Community.

Here at Ajijic Cares we also strive to impact our community through social participation, that is why this year we were invited to participate in the active listening and dialogue forum “Fighting against inequality and social development”. Where we reunited with other activists from all around Jalisco to discuss actions and programs for the LGBTQ+ community.

Sept-Oct 2024

New AJIJIC CARES Office Space.  The Ajijic Cares team has been able to secure office space by donation at Plaza las Flores in Ajijic. This space will serve as a meeting and working space for Ajijic Cares volunteers, as well as a future therapy space for mental health professionals.

Nov 1-2, 2024

Dia de Muertos is a time to remember those who have passed, and Ajijic Cares will present an traditional ofrenda at the Lake Chapala Society with memorabilia of those who lost their lives to HIV/AIDS, Femicide, Hate crimes, and other reasons related to Sexual Health Stigma. Visitors will be provided information and products related to sexual health, as well as being encouraged to “Say Their Names” by writing a dedication to anyone they have known who lost their lives to HIV/AIDS or sexual violence or shame.

Chapala Pride will be attended by AJIJIC CARES volunteers, and our Director will speak to the crowd on the main stage to promote Ajijic Cares initiatives, encourage sexual health practices, and awareness.

World AIDS Day will be celebrated at Plaza Las Flores with a reception between 3-5 pm on Dec 1 2024. There will be light refreshments, including a “Cookies and Condoms” table where cookies, condoms and information about Ajijic Cares will be shared with attendees.

Those in attendance will also celebrate 10 years of Ajijic Cares with a presentation about our beginnings by our founder, Bobby. In addition, our Director & Staff Psychologist, Mitsunari Zapata will share our exciting future goals and direction. At 4:30pm, there will be a ribbon cutting event to dedicate our new office space, and an open tour of the new facility.
